Capacity Building and Awareness for Professionals in Health Care Sector in Sri Lanka
Down Syndrome Awareness Project
Dr. K.G. Dayaratne ( Consultant) initiated Down Syndrome awareness presentations to Medical Professionals at all levels in collaboration with the Regional Directors of Health services of the respective districts in Sri Lanka. He has already covered two districts. Further, an online awareness presentation programme was conducted for the medical students of the Rajarata Medical faculty.
The first two events have led us to develop a one day programme with the participation of other professionals as resource personals.
1. Audiology Speech Language Pathologists
2. Professionals in Food Nutrition and Dietetics
3. Physiotherapists
4. Dental Surgeon.
Regional Director of Health Services
Dr. Dayaratne will be coordinating with the following twenty-five (25) Regional Director of Heath Services in order to schedule the events.
It will be organised once in three months as the medical professions are busy with tight schedule.

This is an ongoing project. This awareness and capacity building up of Medical professionals will be directly affecting the people with Down Syndrome. Ultimately it is expected to build up a Caring Community for People with Down Syndrome.
