This year’s initiative focused on “Sahana Pasela”—a Day Care Centre for children with Down syndrome in Matale—at the invitation of the Jinendhi Resource Centre for Down Syndrome (JRCFDS).

Leadership & Participation

The programme was led by Mrs. S. Galgamuwa (President) and Mrs. Manel (Secretary), together with Mrs. Indra Sivarathnam, Mr. P. Samarawickrama, and Mr. K. K. N. Perera. A total of twenty past teachers participated in the project, joining hands to support the children and staff of the centre.

   •   Building materials to assist in completing the fence wall project, improving safety and infrastructure

Programme Highlights

The event commenced with an inspiring address by Mr. Costa, Founder of Sahana Pasela, who shared the touching story behind the establishment of the centre in memory of his son—a child with Down syndrome. His words deeply moved everyone present.

The children presented a joyful cultural performance, bringing smiles and warmth to the occasion.

Community & Togetherness

The Past Teachers’ Association sponsored lunch for all children, staff, and parents, fostering a spirit of unity and togetherness.

Adding a creative and therapeutic element, Ms. Jinendhi donated coir materials and conducted a hands-on demonstration on making handmade rugs. This activity encouraged skill development and provided therapeutic value for the children.
